Rising 12th Grade Youth Apply to be a
Counselor In Training

2009 CIT's

The CIT program is an opportunity for rising 12th grade youth to get a firsthand look at what being a summer camp counselor is all about. The program is two and half weeks long, during which the CITs do classroom and hands on study of being a counselor. The first week is spent going over activity skills training and the "textbook" aspects of being a counselor. During the second week, the CITs experience the counseling styles of several veteran summer staff members and are supervised in various leadership roles with a cabin group so they can get a hands on feel for being a counselor.  The last half of this two and half week program theCIT's take an active role in programming and leading one of our camp programs, while mentored by veteran staff and supervised by the CIT Coordinator). They gain a sense of independence with even more hands on expereinces working behind-the-scenes with all the planning that goes on when getting ready for camp.

Why Should You Apply?
  • It helps with your transistion from camper to counselor and lets us know you are taking the responsibility of being a counselor seriously.
  • Get a little more pay than a first year applicant that hasn't been through the program.
  • If you have not been through the CIT program and apply to be a counselor right out of High School, you may be asked to wait until after your first year of college to apply. First year counselor applicants right out of High School who have successfully completed the NaCoMe CIT program will be considered for staff positions before those who have not successfully completed the program.
  • Meet some some really cool people that will become life-long friends!
